Different tattoos may require different types of aftercare. The days following the tattoo session can also influence the treatment process (e.g., whether you have to work the next day or can stay home. If you are working, what kind of work it is, etc.). Therefore, in each case, we will discuss the final aftercare after the tattoo is completed.
Here are some important points to keep in mind:
- You must keep the fresh tattoo clean.
- You should clean any fluids from the skin.
- Do not irritate the healing skin.
- Avoid sports, solarium, and swimming pools until the tattoo is fully healed.
- Protect the area from irritation.
- Keep the area out of direct sunlight.
Before the tattoo session:
Getting a tattoo is stressfull for the human body, so it's important to prepare your body before your appointment. Hydration of the body and skin is essential. Therefore, make sure to drink enough fluids in the days leading up to your appointment. Taking Vitamin C during the period before getting tattooed and applying moisturizer to the area where the design will be placed can be helpful too. In addition to physical preparation, mental preparation is also important.
During the tattoo session:
Arrive in comfortable clothing, as this will improve your comfort level. Prepare yourself with fluids and food for the day. Isotonic drinks (e.g., Powerade) and high-energy foods (protein bars, bananas, etc.) are useful. It’s good to bring along sugary, quick-to-eat items like candies or chocolate.
The tattooing process always involves pain.
Listen to music, watch a movie, or simply relax. If you can accept and block out the pain, the process will be much easier.
Think ahead about how to make your day easier and what you might need.
Prepare a playlist in advance or have movies ready. Bring headphones and a power bank if necessary.
Pay attention to your body's limits. Don’t hesitate to ask for a break or rest.
After the tattoo session:
After getting a tattoo in a larger, sensitive area, it is recommended to spend at least one day at home.
The days after the tattoo session, while following the aftercare instructions, help your body recover through rest and relaxation. Continue to pay attention to your fluid and nutrient intake.
Even after complete healing, you must continue to protect the tattoo from the sun!
